Film! Whats that then?

I was at the beach yesterday, photographing the children building sand castles. After I've taken some shots they like to come over and review the images. I shot several frames with a digital camera and then switched to film. After the shots the conversation went like this:
"Can I see the images"
"No, I'm sorry you can't"
"Why not?"
"You cant see the images with this camera because it shoots film."
"Film! Whats that then?"

I think I shoot digital too much!

Now, can anyone tell me what am I supposed to do with that little canister thing in the back of the camera again?
