No more Fetish Anthologies?
Remember the review of Fetish Photo Anthology Volume 5 I did a while ago? You can re-read it here.In it, I asked a lot of rather impudent questions. Well, yesterday Jürgen kindly replied. His words make interesting reading, and reveal just how much hard work, dedication, passion and investment went into producing this most excellent book. Thank you Jürgen for taking the time to make this post. I have reproduced this here in full:
"Jürgen here...There are way too many questions here to be answered in just one reply. Why some are selected and why others are not? That's quite simple; if I receive a CD or DVD with the pictures and if they are any good, I select what I like and I've been doing that for the last 17 years. Remember that I do all of this alone, from research, contacting the models, photographers, layout, boxing the books, going to the postoffice... well, you get the picture. I don't have the time anymore to look on the web for new talent. So yes, anybody who knows great, new talent, just inform me.
I was delighted to read the comments and I resist to answer on the errors written here, but I can now say that this will be last Anthology I will make. Sadly enough. But I'm proud of what I did all these years.
Again to come back on the participating photographers, some didn't send in their work or simply refused to participate when I asked them. The color issue is financially impossible for me... that being said, this volume has pushed me to the limit of my finance and the futur of the magazine is also hanging on a very thin tread. So no, financially I'm not successful, but I love every second of what I do. Black & white photography is my life. Showing off new artist who "make it" after that is my success. (Gilles Berquet, Trevor Watson, Chouraqui, Barbara Nitke and many, many others) Also, I've looked at over 10.000 pictures to select what is in this book. In between I also make the magazine and produce other books like BOUND with David Lawrence and SHIBARI with Master K, run a fetish store with my wife and have 4 kids, who all need my attention. So yes, I admit, I make mistakes. And yes, names are missing. Some photographers sent in their work and I forgot to insert them in the layout! Can you imagine that!??? It's not easy, I can tell you. Well, that's just a small answer to all the many questions posted here. If you want to know why this or why that, just email me. OK? So IF I was to make another volume, I accept the help.

Part of the reason I admire Jurgen so much is just because of the fact that he's been doing it all by himself. It's tremendous what he has accomplished.
I attempted to start a grass-roots effort for Amazon to start selling his book - that would give him a lot more exposure and opportunities, so Jurgen can actually recoupe some of the expenses he incurred while publishing the book, and maybe even make some money.. but so far no luck :o(
I've been trying to spread the good word about the book, encouraging people to buy it, and I know that a few people have, but it's not enough. Anybody who can help Jurgen, please contact him.. (Lin already has all the links posted here)
I collect Photography books (mostly Art Nude, Erotic...or Fetish). Secret Fetish Anthology 4 and 5 are part of my modest collection of a few dozen of such books. Quite frankly, when friends come over, Jurgen's Fetish Anthology books are the ones most look at. What does that say? Yes...Helmut Newton, Mapplethorp...Man Ray...their books are seldom grabbed by visitors, it seems to always be Jurgen's books. Jurgens' B&W Fetish Anthology books are visual delights of erotic imagery.
As an example...This last weekend we had friends over..and yep..what book made it into the kitchen for all to see? Jurgens Fetish Anthology 5.
Jurgen is the best at what he does period!! Its hard to argue with his photographic selections for his books and magazines...as they are his publications. He makes the decisions..and now everyone knows why and how his decisions for the books are made in Jurgen's own words. Lets face reality, not everyone gets independently published...and not everyone gets published every time they submit (and one does not necessarily lead to another). Of recent, some of my photos were not selected for a publication that had requested my submissions. I did not feel jilted (I was disappointed however)...but I thanked them for the opportunity and for the honor of being ask to submit my work for consideration. Nothing is guaranteed...and just because someone did not get published in this book or that book does not mean their work is not significant. It simply means that either they were not known about OR their work did not fit the concept of the book. So what?! Life goes on. Do we measure our lives by such things? Sure..these credits are nice...but publishing credits and a $1.00 can't even buy a cup of coffee.
Jurgen and I have emailed many times over the last couple of years, and we have got to know one another as well as emails can provide. He is a great guy..honest...and caring. As far as an artist goes, his books/magazines are works of art on their own...and a testament to his own artistic genius. I respect him greatly.
My rant above is not aimed at anyone other than myself.......however...from someone who has been independently published..AND from someone who has been turned down from having work published...I feel qualified to comment on both. If others can relate and understand where I am coming from....GREAT..if not....disappointment awaits my friend.
I wish Jurgen and his family the best in success and life.

ps,..thanks for sharing Jurgens email with us
