Swathed in Blue
“Change has come to America.”
Barack Obama, President-Elect of the United States
I imagine ya’ll be too busy partying right now to read this, but I just wanted to congratulate all those of you who have been fighting so passionately for change. You did it! You have (literally) re-written the map.
If you want to see a fascinating blow-by-blow account of history being made, Stephen’s blog from last night makes for gripping reading.
Congrats to all, and to Obama too. The poor bloke has certainly inherited a mess. As Time magazine observed so accurately: “America is drowning in debt. Getting square again will be painful.”
Change is long overdue. As to whether Obama can rescue America from its watery depths, only time will tell.
In the meantime, here in the U.K. we have a little while to go yet before our own “new dawn.” Personally, I can’t wait for the day when we too re-write our own map. Blue ink, of course :-)

Some of us are bit hungover this morning, not from the consumption of alcohol (although some might be feeling that too) but from drinking up last evening's good spirits. I slept easier last night than I have in while. I woke up feeling good. Reality will set in soon enough and we will all have to get back to the business of life, but today I'm just going to allow myself to feel good.
Obama win give us the opportunity to hope again. To hope we can get out of this mess we’re in and the hope for a better future. It’s going to be difficult painful but everyone must sacrifice. That too is part of the hope Obama give us at we are all in this as a nation and together we’ll make better choices. Not just the rich or the middle-class or the poor but for all American’s and for the world. This is a historic time in our nation my god grant us the wisdom to make things right.
My niece teaches second grade and has one black student in her class. She also has one child who speaks his parents' bigotry. The black child constantly complains to her that the other boy is "making fun of my blackness," but she is never able to catch the other boy doing it.
Yesterday she heard the child of bigots say, "McCain is going to win with White Power." He announced to everyone that Obama murders babies (because he is pro-Choice).
This is the undercurrent against which Obama won the election.
An internationally acclaimed rapper said last night that, when he was a child, he was too embarrassed to say he wanted to be president. Now his son can say he wants to grow up to be president and mean it, he said tearfully.
This is a sea change for the United States. Fifty years ago Rosa Parks was arrested for refusing to sit in the back of a bus. Forty years ago Martin Luther King said, "You are going to the Promised Land, but I will not go with you." The next day he was assassinated, Jesse Jackson at his side.
Last night a camera caught Jesse Jackson in Grant Park, tears streaming down his face.
I am so proud to be American this morning.
Thanks for the words, and for the link. I'm still giddy. Loved the title.
I for one am hung over.
But it feels good.
We all watched history being made last night. For the first time that I can remember, I'm proud of my country. A big chunk of my cynicism, especially towards the American people at large, has been deleted, lifting its terrible weight from my being. I'm so thrilled about this.
All the way up to election day I was concerned that many Americans--white Americans--weren't being truthful in the polls. That, once in the privacy of the voting booth, they would vote with their biases.
They proved me wrong.
I had hoped with all my being they would prove me wrong but my cynicism kept telling me otherwise.
They proved me wrong.
And I'm so happy they did.
Obama made a lot of promises, now lets see what he can do to deliver. I figure he has 2 years to make the tides moving quickly or in 4 years he and his family will get an eviction notice like many homeowners have recently.
Several things will have me watching him. 1. Where did his money come from, as he did not take public money he was not subject to disclosures. Was some or any of his money come from outside of the country. 2. Why did the Unions not publicly provide support. I have not heard of Unions not publicly endorsing a candidate and they usually are Democrat.
Maybe I am cautious, but I will say Obama is a good speaker and that alone may be what brings us together.
I love the post, and I love the shot of Ivory Flame -- one of my favorite models!
I like the pop out window, would be interested in how you did that one.
Your site always has looked very professional. The picture uses nice pose and light, good stuff.
Thanks Dennis!
Rich is a cybergeek (day job), so only he knows about how to do the pop-up thingy. It uses a program called Highslide JS. That's all I know!
He also wrote a post about the web site a while ago at
